Mr. Jacobs’ death followed a long illness, Mr. Kazimi told the publication.

Mr. Jacobs had a decadeslong career in healthcare.

During this career, he held for 21 years various roles at Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare, and he co-founded Psychiatric Solutions, a behavioral health company, grew the company and sold it 13 years ago, according to the Nashville Business Journal

He also served as chair and CEO of Franklin, Tenn.-based Acadia Healthcare. In July 2020, he was named CEO of Brentwood, Tenn.-based Quorum Health, as the company was emerging from bankruptcy. He stepped down as Quorum’s CEO two months later.

“Joey was a legendary, beloved member of the health care community. He was an effective leader with an entrepreneurial spirit who knew when to listen and when to take action,” Mr. Kazimi said in an emailed statement to the Nashville Business Journal. “As a member of various civic boards throughout Middle Tennessee, he was a sought-after mentor whose sound advice and guidance was instrumental in growing so many of the region’s healthcare companies.”
