Here are five things to know about the closure.
1. The unit must close with a final date of Aug. 19, with patient admissions ending at 11:59 p.m.
2. Hospital officials said the Aug. 19 closure “is of absolute necessity to provide sufficient physician and obstetrical nurse staffing to maintain 24-hour services to uphold the safe and high-quality manner of care that is the mission and responsibility of Jameson Hospital.”
3. Patients expecting to deliver between Aug. 20 and Aug. 31 were notified and alternate arrangements have been made for labor and delivery service with nearby hospitals.
4. Jameson’s emergency department physicians and staff continue labor and delivery training for any obstetrical emergencies that should arrive in the hospital’s emergency department.
5. Gynecological services will continue to be provided within a broad scope of medical and surgical care of female patients.
