House Republicans consider repealing employer insurance mandate

House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Kevin Brady, R-Texas, said Republicans are considering delaying or repealing the ACA’s employer insurance mandate, according to The Hill.

Mr. Brady said he and other lawmakers discussed the idea with HHS Secretary Alex Azar. The repeal would be retroactive and not impose a financial penalty on businesses with more than 50 employees who have not offered insurance plans as far back as 2015, when the mandate took effect.

“We want to make sure our businesses aren’t caught up in some sort of fines or punitive measures for the past three years,” said Mr. Brady, according to The Hill. “I think the goal would be to delay or repeal it in total, but retroactive as well.”
