The University of Pittsburgh Medical Center plans to add 500 jobs this fiscal year after its operating income increased 13 percent in the fiscal year that ended June 30, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report. The jump from $212 million in 2009 to $240 million in 2010 comes after two years of decreases.
Most of the new UPMC jobs will be added at UPMC Presbyterian and UPMC Shadyside.
The Carmi-White (Ill.) County hospital will create about 160 medical personnel and support staff positions when it reopens in Aug. 2012, according to a WTVW report. The hospital was forced to close its doors in Dec. 2005 when officials decided they could no longer staff the facility.
