Citing a “rapidly changing healthcare environment,” the new CEO of Northeast Hospital Corp. in Beverly, Mass., told his staff that the hospital system will eliminate 75 to 100 jobs in order to save up to $15 million over the next year, according to a Boston Globe report. The job cuts will be made in three phases, starting this week.
Murray Medical Center in Chatsworth, Georgia, was given 30 days to figure out how to reduce its budget, according to a WRCB report. The hospital’s restructuring initiative ultimately involved reducing hospital staff by 15 full-time equivalents, including clinical and non-clinical positions.
El Camino Hospital in Mountain View, Calif., recently announced its plans to lay off about 140 employees by the end of October, a decision that will affect positions from administrative assistants to nurses, according to a Mercury News report. The hospital said the reduction was necessary to align operational costs with patient revenues. El Camino was hit hard by the recession and faced a $7.91 million deficit for the 2009-10 fiscal year as recently as last month. Despite more recent figures that show the hospital may bounce back financially by the end of the year, cost-cutting measures were necessary.
Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings, Neb., the largest employer in its county, will lay off 37 workers soon, according to a KHAS report. Hospital officials cited declines in patient volume and reimbursements as the reason for the layoffs.
