HHS to Expand Loan Repayment Program for Critical Access Hospitals

As part of a larger initiative to stimulate job growth in rural America, the White House announced it would expand eligibility for the National Health Service Corps’ loan repayment program in order to help Critical Access Hospitals recruit new physicians.

The expansion will benefit the country’s 1,300 critical access hospitals, according to a White House news release. According to the release, the addition of one primary care physician in a rural community generates approximately $1.5 million in annual revenue and creates 23 jobs annually.
