The layoffs affect leadership, overhead and primarily nonclinical jobs, according to the News-Journal, which cites an internal memo to employees from the hospital’s president and CEO Jeff Feasel.

Mr. Feasel said declining Medicare and Medicaid reimbursement, a recent computer system conversion and declining patient volume in the hospital’s emergency departments as more urgent care centers open in Volusia County are some of the reasons the hospital is falling short of budget projections for fiscal year 2019.

“They require us to act quickly and operate more efficiently than ever before in order to continue to provide access to excellent care for our patients and to remain financially sustainable,” Mr. Feasel wrote.

Because of these challenges, Mr. Feasel said the hospital “will be realigning approximately 25 leadership, overhead and primarily nonclinical positions — many of which are job eliminations.”

He said the hospital will continue to focus on increasing revenue by growing service lines and businesses within and outside the acute inpatient care environment.

Halifax Health Medical Center has more than 4,000 employees and works with more than 500 physicians.
