GOP senators draft alternative healthcare bill

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., announced Tuesday that he is working with other senators on an alternative healthcare bill that he hopes will appeal to his Democratic colleagues, according to Politico.

Mr. Graham previously endorsed the Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act, but support for the bill among Republicans has been shaky and it is unclear whether or not Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., will be able to pass the bill.

“I’m working with some senators to come up with a new approach to deal with how to replace Obamacare,” Mr. Graham told reporters. “I think it will be fundamentally different. I think it will potentially attract some Democrats.”

Mr. Graham also added that he is rallying support with lawmakers outside of Washington, D.C.

“We’re not there yet, but we’re working with governors, and we may be taking some of the critics of the current bill and converting them to supporters.”
