Sen. Lamar Alexander, R-Tenn., called on HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, to extend cost-sharing reductions during a senate hearing Thursday, according to The Hill.

Mr. Alexander, chairman of the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions, said that government payments to insurers are vital to help maintain coverage for millions of Americans. The CSR payments allow payers to charge lower out-of-pocket costs for low-income individuals who would otherwise not be able to afford coverage.

The payments currently cost $7 billion a year and President Donald Trump’s administration has not said how long it plans to provide funding.
