Here are five things to know about the hospital.
1. The new Golisano Children’s Hospital is the largest capital project in the University of Rochester’s history with eight stories, 52 private rooms, a 68-bed neonatal intensive care unit and 245,000 square feet of new space.
2. The $145 million hospital will serve families in 17 counties in and around western New York.
3. Golisano Children’s will be the first hospital in the United States to include integrated PET/MRI imaging capability.
4. There is a second phase of the new children’s hospital that is projected to cost an additional $45 million and will include pediatric operating rooms — including a dedicated cardiac operating room — and a 20-bed pediatric intensive care unit. The new operating room will be on the fourth floor of the hospital and the new PICU will be on the sixth floor.
5. Construction on the second phase of the project is slated to begin this fall, with new spaces opening by July 2017.
