Former Ohio hospital executive dies

Sister Phyllis Ann Gerold, a longtime healthcare leader in northwest Ohio who was president and CEO of two Toledo-area hospitals at once, died March 15 after suffering chronic health problems for several years, according to a Toledo Blade report.

Sister Gerold oversaw Mercy Hospital Toledo and Mercy St. Charles Hospital in Oregon, Ohio, from 1969 to 1992.

“She thrived on it,” Jane Daniel, her sister, told the Toledo Blade.

Sister Gerold, a graduate of Edgecliff College in Cincinnati and Mercy School of Nursing in Hamilton, Ohio, also served as a nursing supervisor at Mercy Hospitals in four Ohio locations.
