Former East Jefferson General Hospital CEO dies at 66

Mark Peters, MD, former president and CEO of Metairie, La.-based East Jefferson General Hospital, died Aug. 17 at the age of 66, according to a nola.com report.

Dr. Peters led the hospital for 15 years before retiring in 2017 after he began treatment for pancreatic cancer.

As CEO, Dr. Peters led the hospital’s recovery after Hurricane Katrina hit the region and spearheaded its affiliation with Houston-based MD Anderson Cancer Center.

He also served as chairman of the Coalition of Leaders for Louisiana Healthcare, a group that aimed to modernize the state’s healthcare delivery system after the hurricane.

Visitation and a funeral will be held in Metairie Aug. 23.
