The budget changes follow Gov. Charlie Crist’s veto of $9.7 million in funding for Shands UF. The cuts also mean the loss of the money the hospital would have received through a federal match, bringing the total loss to about $15 million for the next fiscal year.
Shands UF is one of six “safety net” hospitals in Florida. According to the report, the loss to all Florida safety-net hospitals is estimated at more than $23 million.
