Earth Day 2013: 18 Hospitals Highlighted for Reducing Energy

In conjunction with Earth Day yesterday, the American Society for Healthcare Engineering recognized 18 hospitals and health systems for using innovative strategies to save energy and make energy efficiency a priority.

ASHE, part of the American Hospital Association, honored the hospitals as part of its Energy Efficiency Commitment program. Hospitals that reduced their energy consumption by 10 percent or more over a 12-month period — or repeat honorees that reduced consumption by an additional 5 percent — were recognized:

•    Advocate BroMenn Medical Center in Normal, Ill.
•    Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, Ill.
•    Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago
•    Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Ill.
•    Aurora Sheboygan (Wis.) Memorial Medical Center
•    Aurora St. Luke's Medical Center in Milwaukee
•    Baptist Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
•    Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati
•    Bon Secours St. Francis Downtown in Greenville, S.C.
•    Froedtert Hospital in Milwaukee.
•    Good Samaritan Hospital in Cincinnati
•    Memorial Hermann Westside Hospital in Houston
•    Middle Tennessee Medical Center in Murfreesboro
•    Saint Thomas Hospital in Nashville, Tenn.
•    St. Elizabeth Edgewood (Ky.)
•    St. Elizabeth Ft. Thomas (Ky.)
•    St. Elizabeth Florence (Ky.)
•    Texas Children's Hospital in Houston (west tower)
