The Choose Medicare Act differs from the Kaine-Bennet Medicare buy-in bill by expanding the buy-in ability to employers of all sizes. The policies would cover all of the ACA’s essential health benefits and establish an out-of-pocket maximum in Medicare. The bill’s sponsors also said it would drive down premiums from commercial insurers because of competitive Medicare prices.
“People in Connecticut love Medicare. It’s popular, it’s patient friendly, and it’s cost effective. Every individual and every business should have the right to buy into Medicare, and our bill allows this to finally happen,” Mr. Murphy said . “For those who think that Medicare is the right plan for all Americans, this bill puts that theory to test and allows for consumers and businesses to decide whether they want to remain on private insurance or switch to Medicare.”
