Funding for the hospital came from a $12 million USDA rural development loan, with another $5.5 million coming from county bonds that voters approved. The remainder of the cost will be covered by hospital funds.

The hospital is expected to open in May 2012, and will consist of a surgery center, an emergency department, 20 beds and a medical office building. It will serve more than 6,000 Fillmore county residents.
