Connecticut governor names state’s healthcare advocate

Gov. Dannel Malloy (D-Conn.) nominated Ted Doolittle as the state’s healthcare advocate, a position that includes helping state residents navigate the healthcare system, advocating for patients’ rights and educating consumers about healthcare coverage.

Here are four things to know about Mr. Doolittle.

1. Mr. Doolittle is division director for the enforcement unit of the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection’s Occupational and Professional Division. He investigates and resolves consumer complaints about state-licensed jobs.

2. He previously was program director with CGI Federal and worked with the company’s Health and Compliance Programs Group on federal government healthcare integrity and anti-fraud initiatives.

3. Mr. Doolittle also previously worked in the healthcare group at LeClairRyan Law Firm as a deputy director for policy and enforcement with CMS’ Center for Program Integrity. He was previously an associate general counsel with Minnetonka, Minn.-based UnitedHealthcare and served as an assistant attorney general in the Connecticut Attorney General’s Office.   

4. Mr. Doolittle earned a bachelor’s degree from Cambridge, Mass.-based Harvard University and a JD from the University of Connecticut School of Law in Hartford.
