Business owners fear negative repercussions may result as the hospital and its more than 600 employees move from its current location to East Corning. The Corning City Council is also expected to object the Certificate of Need that is required for the hospital relocation. Corning Hospital officials, however, are trying to quell residents’ concerns, saying the move means the hospital will be better equipped to serve patients in its new location.

Guthrie Healthcare, parent company of Corning Hospital, has agreed to help fund a study that would determine future uses for the hospital’s current plot of land. Details on finances and design for the new hospital have not yet been disclosed.
