Starting Jan. 1, 2011, all hospitals with adult, pediatric and neonatal ICUs must begin submitting central line-associated infection data to the National Healthcare Safety Network of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The requirement will affect FY 2013 payment determinations.

Hospitals with ICUs must report regardless of whether or not they have central line days. Hospitals without ICUs must submit a notification form.
