Cleveland Clinic CEO Apologizes, Explains Plans to Close Trauma Center

Cleveland Clinic plans to close the trauma center at Huron Hospital in East Cleveland in 2011. Critics have blasted the Clinic recently for failing to share the news with the community.

Dr. Cosgrove told members of the Cleveland City Council, safety director Martin Flask and EMS commissioner Ed Eckart that news about the center’s closing was released after a private conversation between a Clinic trauma physician and Huron Hospital staff became public.

Dr. Cosgrove said the Clinic will not reverse its plans to close the center. The center’s Level II certification as a trauma center expires at the end of the month and Dr. Cosgrove predicts the facility will not have the staffing to renew the certification.
