CEO to know: Dr. Paul Rothman of Johns Hopkins Medicine

Paul B. Rothman, MD, serves as CEO of Johns Hopkins Medicine in Baltimore, Md., dean of the medical faculty and vice president of medicine of The Johns Hopkins University.

As dean and CEO, Dr. Rothman oversees both the Johns Hopkins Health System and the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine.

Dr. Rothman joined Johns Hopkins in July 2012 after serving as dean of the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa in Iowa City and as leader of its clinical practice plan since 2008. Previously, he served as head of internal medicine at the University of Iowa for four years, and as vice chairman of research and founding director of the division of pulmonary, allergy and critical care medicine at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York City.

A recipient of many honors, Dr. Rothman has been awarded the James S. McDonnell Foundation Career Development Award, the Pfizer Scholars Award, the Pew Scholar Award, the Leukemia Society of America Scholar Award and the Pharmacia Allergy Research Foundation International Award. He is a member of the American Society for Clinical Investigation and is a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Previously, he served as an elected member of the Council of Association of American Physicians, a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Sciences and as a member of the American Clinical and Climatological Association.

Dr. Rothman earned his medical degree from Yale University in New Haven, Conn., in 1984.
