Here are four things to know about the affiliation.

1. The affiliation was effective June 1.

2. Both parties said the affiliation improves access to coordinated healthcare for patients in central Massachusetts.

3. The affiliation gives CareWell patients easy access to UMass Memorial Health Care specialists and hospitals when necessary, according to a news release. Likewise, UMass Memorial patients will have access to urgent care services, reducing wait times and costs for non-urgent patients.

4. Multiple urgent care centers will open as part of the affiliation. The first two UMass Memorial-affiliated CareWell Urgent Care centers, located in Worcester, will open July 15. A third site, planned for Northborough, Mass., is slated to open in October. Additional affiliated sites throughout central Massachusetts will open over the next 12 to 18 months.
