Dr. Sun, a neurosurgeon, is the medical director of the neurosurgery division at the hospital. Through his position as the Chen Endowed Chair, he will continue to support the hospital’s recruitment of high caliber neurosurgeons.
Mr. Chen, who also serves as Blackberry’s executive chairman of the board of directors, commented on the endowment. “[UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland] help[s] all kids in need, and I am lucky enough to be able to give back and support such a worthy cause,” he said, according to the report. “My wife and I are East Bay (Calif.) residents; it means a great deal that we have a program of this caliber in our region — and that all children are cared for, regardless of ability to pay, is admirable and important.”
