Under the agreement, which Baptist made earlier this month with Attala County, Monfort Jones will become Baptist Medical Center-Attala. Baptist will begin operating the hospital June 1.
Baptist will operate the facility as a critical access hospital and continue to provide the core services now offered in the facility, according to a news release. The release notes that Baptist Medical Center in Jackson will serve as a referral hospital for specialties not offered in a critical access hospital setting.
The news comes as operating capital was drying up at Montfort Jones, and closure was inevitable, according to a report from The Clarion-Ledger.
According to the report, the hospital has laid off 38 employees and closed its intensive care unit in the past year.
