Dr. Barbe drew attention to the Congressional Budget Office’s projection that 22 million Americans become uninsured in the coming years under the Better Care Reconciliation Act, and that many people who gained health insurance from Medicaid expansion would lose their coverage.
“Access to care for some of the most vulnerable members of our society — including those who require treatment for opioid-use disorder — would be threatened by the Senate proposal’s arbitrary, unsustainable and shortsighted formula for funding Medicaid,” said Dr. Barbe.
Instead of a full ACA repeal, Dr. Barbe suggested lawmakers consider implementing cost-sharing reduction payments to stabilize the insurance market while lawmakers think of sustainable solutions to some of the ACA’s shortcomings.
