9 Indiana executive orders address healthcare

Indiana Gov. Mike Braun signed nine executive orders Jan. 22 related to healthcare.

A news release from the governor’s office said the orders aim to reduce healthcare costs, increase access and increase transparency.

The executive orders are as follows:

Executive order 25-20 — Directs the state’s health department to ensure compliance with Indiana abortion laws, including reporting on terminated pregnancies.

Executive order 25-21 — Directs state agencies to “evaluate and assess options to improve price transparency in healthcare.” It also directs agencies to seek to adopt or implement rules, regulations and policies that enhance price transparency.

Executive order 25-22 — Calls for an evaluation of the value of nonprofit hospital charity care compared to the tax-exempt benefits hospitals receive.

Executive order 25-23 — Directs state agencies to prioritize addressing surprise medical bills, pharmacy benefit managers and high drug prices, with the goal of improving price affordability in healthcare. 

Executive order 25-24 — Directs state agencies to conduct independent audits of healthcare spending in Medicaid and the State Employee Health Plan, and report their findings.

Executive order 25-25 — Directs the Indiana Family and Social Services Administration to develop an interactive dashboard, in part, to streamline healthcare programs and reduce redundancy.

Executive order 25-26 — Encourages data sharing among Indiana agencies, in part, to improve efficiency.

Executive order 25-27 — Directs state agencies to examine hospitals’ use of the 340B drug pricing program to ensure participants are meeting eligibility requirements.

Executive order 25-28 — Directs the Department of Insurance to enable health insurers to offer split-risk pools for insurance.
