8 Recent Hospital and Health System Layoffs

The following hospital and/or health system job eliminations were announced or implemented within the past month. They are listed by the number of employees or positions affected.  

1. Albemarle Health in North Carolina to Lay Off 39 Employees
Albemarle Health in Elizabeth City, N.C., is laying off 39 employees as part of a plan to reduce expenses by up to $4 million over the next six months.

2. Saint Thomas Health Slashes 38 Jobs
Nashville, Tenn.-based Saint Thomas Health cut 38 jobs related to billing and other non-patient-centric services.

3. Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Kentucky Lays Off 28 Employees
Murray-Calloway County Hospital in Murray, Ky., announced job cuts affecting 28 employees.

4. Lawrence & Memorial in Connecticut Changes Work Status for 22 Employees
Since the beginning of the year, Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London, Conn., laid off or reduced the hours of 22 employees.

5. Adirondack Health to Cut 18 Full-Time Jobs, Reduce Hours for Others
Saranac Lake, N.Y.-based Adirondack Health announced the layoffs of 18 full-time employees and reduced work hours for another 15 full- and part-time employees.

6. Tulare Regional Medical Center in California to Lay Off 16 Employees
Tulare (Calif.) Regional Medical Center is laying off approximately 16 people as part of a turnaround plan to address a $4 million shortfall.

7. Frederick Memorial Hospital in Maryland to Eliminate Jobs
Frederick (Md.) Memorial Hospital plans to eliminate an unspecified number of positions within its facility and will give affected employees 60 days of paid time to obtain other vacant jobs within the hospital.

8. Carlisle Regional Medical Center in Pennsylvania Lays Off Employees
Carlisle (Pa.) Regional Medical Center laid off an unspecified number of employees.
