8 recent healthcare layoffs

The following healthcare layoffs have been reported by Becker's Hospital Review since March 15.

1. Aetna to close prescription delivery hub in Florida, cut 106 jobs
Aetna will close its mail-order prescription delivery location in Plantation, Fla., resulting in 106 job cuts.

2. Aetna to close another prescription delivery hub, cut 138 jobs
Aetna will close its mail-order prescription delivery location in Kansas City, Mo., resulting in 138 job cuts.

3. Nicklaus Children's Hospital to freeze wages, lay off staff
Miami-based Nicklaus Children's Hospital is making cutbacks, including eliminating pay raises for all employees this year, and reducing the size of its workforce in response to industry pressures.

4. Providence St. Joseph digital unit confirms layoffs after exec questioned on Reddit
Renton, Wash.-based Providence St. Joseph Health representatives confirmed layoffs of its digital innovation group employees.

5. AbbVie to cut 178 jobs in California
North Chicago, Ill.-based AbbVie will lay off 178 workers from its Stemcentrx unit, a South San Francisco-based biotech.

6. UnitedHealth unit's pharmacy to close Houston sites
Avella Specialty Pharmacy, a subsidiary of UnitedHealth Group's pharmacy benefit manager OptumRx, is ending its drug compounding services at two Houston sites. Texas Workforce Commission documents reviewed by the Houston Chronicle show 161 people will be permanently laid off due to the closures. The layoffs were set to begin March 1.

7.  Philadelphia hospital to lay off 175 employees amid financial troubles
Philadelphia-based Hahnemann University Hospital plans to lay off 175 nurses, support staff and managers as it struggles to keep its doors open.

8. Wisconsin hospital lays off CEO amid affiliation
Beaver Dam (Wis.) Community Hospitals laid off its CEO following its affiliation with Marshfield (Wis.) Clinic Health System.
