67% Republican voters want GOP to continue ACA repeal efforts

The majority of Republican voters —  67 percent — want Senate GOP leaders to maintain efforts to repeal and replace the ACA, despite the party’s inability to reconcile differences over key provisions of the proposed replacement legislation, according to a poll from Politico and Morning Consult.

On the other hand, 21 percent of Republican voters want their party leaders to move on, Politico reported. Nearly half of all voters — 40 percent — including Democrats and Republicans, want congressional Republicans to keep working on a new healthcare bill, and 47 percent want them to move on.

Amid calls from both parties for a bipartisan approach to health reform, 54 percent of Republican voters want GOP leaders to work with Democrats, while 39 percent want them to work exclusively with other Republicans.

About 40 percent of all voters oppose the Senate’s Better Care Reconciliation Act, while 47 percent disapprove, the poll showed. Voters are also divided on President Donald Trump’s role in the ACA repeal and replace process, with 27 percent saying the president has been too involved in efforts to pass the bill. Another 21 percent say he hasn’t been involved enough. Thirty-three percent say he’s involved the right amount, and 20 percent don’t have an opinion.

The poll was conducted July 7 to July 9.
