6 recent healthcare layoffs

The following healthcare layoffs have been reported by Becker’s Hospital Review since April 5.

1. Bon Secours St. Francis Health System in Greenville, S.C., will close its Pelham Road Medical Plaza May 3, resulting in the layoff of 60 employees.

2. Bayer AG will eliminate about 4,500 positions in its home market of Germany.

3. Cambridge, Mass.-based Merrimack Pharmaceuticals revealed it will complete another round of layoffs. The announcement comes after the drugmaker stopped work on its sole drug candidate in a clinical trial.

4. Gilead Science will lay off about 20 percent of its sales team after the drugmaker’s lucrative, older drugs lost patent protection.

5. Clarksville, Ind.-based Kentuckiana Medical Center closed April 5.

6. Pittsburgh-based Highmark Health said it laid off 239 IT  employees.
