5 healthcare layoffs reported in August

The following healthcare layoffs were reported by Becker's Hospital Review in August:

1. 1,079 to lose jobs in Ohio, West Virginia hospital closings
More than a thousand workers at East Ohio Regional Hospital in Martins Ferry and Ohio Valley Medical Center in Wheeling, W.Va., will lose their jobs when the hospitals close in October.

2. Bayfront Health lays off 30 employees
St. Petersburg, Fla.-based Bayfront Health laid off 30 employees, primarily affecting nonclinical positions.

3. Integris eliminates 171 jobs
Oklahoma City, Okla.-based Integris eliminated 171 jobs, primarily affecting corporate, nonclinical positions.

4. AmerisourceBergen to close California distribution center, cut 100 jobs
AmerisourceBergen, a major hospital supplier in the U.S., will close its distribution center in Valencia, Calif., resulting in 100 layoffs.

5. New Jersey drugmaker to cut 69 opioid sales jobs
Daiichi Sankyo, which has a U.S. headquarters in Basking Ridge, N.J., will eliminate 69 opioid pain medication sales force jobs by October.
