Below are the four most-cited leadership traits that garner the most respect from employees, as reported by Inc.

  1. They demonstrate respect for others. This is one of the most valuable leadership traits, as people who feel valued and respected will almost always work harder.
  2. They listen more than they talk. Giving attention instead of demanding it may sometimes seem counter-intuitive to people in powerful positions, but drawing on the suggestions and ideas of employees creates a more open and productive workplace.
  3. They welcome candid feedback. Asking employees for feedback about their leadership style and practices not only makes employees feel valued, but it can create more effective leaders.
  4. They work hard to establish trust. Trust is absolutely vital, and creating a transparent and accountable work environment is one of the best ways to go about doing it.
