4 things for leaders to remember when giving presentations

Leaders are expected to be calm and collected when giving presentations, though not everyone is naturally equipped with public speaking abilities, according to Chief Executive.

Here are four keys for leaders preparing presentations:

1. Be clear on purpose. The worst mistake a presenter can make is giving a talk without a focus. Articulating the purpose of the presentation is a must.

2. Tell a story. Sometimes, it is natural instinct to simply provide a rundown of facts, but people remember and respond to stories. Leaders must attach a narrative to their presentation.

3. Set the room. Before crafting a presentation, leaders must consider the physical space they will be speaking in. Whether it's a stage or a conference room, each room offers different ways to engage with the audience, and leaders should take this into account as they write their presentations.

4. Don't outsource development. Leaders are extremely busy, and it is easy to pass the task of writing a presentation along to an assistant or intern. However, leaders will only be able to deliver moving and convincing presentations if they are  deeply involved in the creation process.
