3 essential crisis management steps for leaders

Crisis management is one of a leader's most important responsibilities, and leaders must know exactly what to do when faced with the unexpected, according to the Harvard Business Review.

Here are three steps leaders must remember in a crisis.

1. Learn to stop. It is natural in a crisis situation to want to push through and maintain some kind of forward momentum, and instead, leaders must take the time to stop and process new information even if it means halting a planned course of action.

2. Do, monitor, diagnose. Instead of moving from one task to the other with your head down, leaders should constantly step back and analyze the actual effects of their management techniques and adjust accordingly.

3. Know something about everybody else's job. When teams tackle crises, they are always faced with surprises, and it is essential for leaders to understand the role of everyone on their team in order to adjust assignments accordingly.
