The operating room will be complete in spring 2014 and will offer hybrid surgeries that combine traditional heart procedures with cardiac catheterization in order to perform major procedures while avoiding large incisions.
In addition, Summa Health System will offer a cardiology fellowship at the institute starting in July 2014.
Summa’s president and CEO, Thomas J. Strauss, estimated that 1,000 people who would otherwise have to leave the Akron area for treatment can now find care at Summa’s new center.
