NewYork-Presbyterian and Weill Cornell Receive $20M Gift for Cardiology

The NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical College has created the Dalio Institute of Cardiovascular Imaging with help from a $20 million gift from Raymond T. Dalio, an emeritus trustee of the NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital.

The institute’s aim is to learn more about preventing heart disease using imaging techniques to improve diagnoses. The institute will employ a multidisciplinary team of physicians and scientists who will focus specifically on studying “vulnerable plaque”, a risk factor in heart attacks and sudden cardiac deaths, according to a news release.

In addition to using state-of-the-art imaging tools, the institute will also develop new technologies and diagnostic tests to advance its research.

James K. Min, MD, has been named director of the Dalio Institute. Dr. Min is currently an attending physician at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital and a full-time faculty member of the Department of Radiology at New York City-based Weill Cornell Medical College. He is an expert in cardiovascular imaging and was previously the director of cardiac imaging research and co-director of imaging at Los Angeles-based Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
