WVU Health System appoints 1st-ever chief pharmacy officer: 5 things to know

Morgantown-based West Virginia University Health System tapped Todd Karpinski, PharmD, to serve as chief pharmacy officer, a newly created role, effective Feb. 18.

Here are five things to know:

1. Dr. Karpinski comes to WVU Health System from The Resource Group, where he served as national director of ambulatory pharmacy. The Resource Group is a business consulting organization that is a part of St. Louis-based Ascension Healthcare.

2. He has previous experience as chief pharmacy officer and associate dean for health system practice at Milwaukee-based Froedtert & Medical College of Wisconsin.

3. He is a board member with the American Society of Health Systems Pharmacists and a fellow with the American College of Health System Executives.

4. The Pharmacy Society of Wisconsin named Dr. Karpinski ‘Pharmacist of the Year’ in 2013.

5. In his new role, he will oversee strategic planning, development and operations for all WVU Health System pharmacy services.
