WellStar Health System names 3 new executives

Marietta, Ga.-based WellStar Health System has appointed three new executive leaders.

Kem Mullins, who has served as interim COO for the past seven months, has been named executive vice president of ambulatory division and business development. In 2012, he joined WellStar as senior vice president and president of WellStar Cobb and Windy Hill hospitals. He has also served in leadership roles at a variety of hospitals and medical centers, including Memphis, Tenn.-based Saint Francis Hospital-Bartlett and Lebanon, Tenn.-based University Medical Center.

Carrie Owen Plietz has been appointed executive vice president and COO of WellStar's hospital division. She previously served as CEO of Sacramento, Calif.-based Sutter Medical Center. Ms. Plietz has also served in leadership positions at Marriottsville, Md.-based Bon Secours Health System and Nashville, Tenn.-based HCA Healthcare.

WellStar named John A. Brennan, MD, executive vice president and chief clinical integration officer. Before joining WellStar, Dr. Brennen served as executive vice president, president and CEO of Newark Beth Israel Medical Center and Children's Hospital of New Jersey. In addition, he brings 20 years of emergency medicine experience to his new position.
