WellSpan taps physician executive from HSHS

York, Pa.-based WellSpan Health has appointed Kevin Lewis, MD, as executive vice president and chief physician executive, effective June 1.

Dr. Lewis, a pulmonary, critical care and sleep medicine specialist, will serve as president of WellSpan Medical Group and provide executive leadership to the medical group’s board of directors and WellSpan Population Health. He will also help guide the system’s clinical growth strategies.

Most recently, Dr. Lewis served as senior vice president, chief clinical officer and chief physician executive of Springfield, Ill.-based Hospital Sisters Health System. In that role, he oversaw medical groups, a large accountable care organization and clinically integrated network, virtual care, health sciences education and research across the system’s 13 hospitals, according to a June 1 news release. 

“Kevin is a highly accomplished physician leader who has spent his career partnering with physicians and clinical teams to strengthen quality, safety, access and performance across health systems,” Roxanna Gapstur, PhD, RN, president and CEO of WellSpan Health, said. “The chief physician executive is a critical role at WellSpan and we are excited to welcome Kevin to the team.”
