Washington University Physicians names Dr. Paul Scheel CEO: 5 notes

St. Louis-based Washington University Physicians appointed Paul J. Scheel Jr., MD, CEO. He was also named associate vice chancellor for clinical affairs at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

1. Dr. Scheel will take on his new roles on July 1, 2017.

2. He is the Ronald Peterson Professor of Medicine and director of the nephrology division at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in Baltimore.

3. He is also currently vice president of the Office of Johns Hopkins Physicians at Johns Hopkins Medicine.

4. He completed his residency and nephrology fellowship at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

5. Dr. Scheel succeeds James P. Crane, MD, who founded the practice. He will stay on in “a part-time capacity as he passes the torch to Paul,” said David H. Perlmutter, MD, executive vice chancellor for medical affairs and dean of the Washington University School of Medicine.
