Virtua CEO Richard Miller to retire at year-end: 5 things to know

Marlton, N.J.-based Virtua health system CEO Richard P. Miller plans to retire at the end of 2017, ending a 21-year stint as the organization’s leader.

Here are five things to know:

1. Mr. Miller was instrumental in the merger between West Jersey Health System and Memorial Health Alliance, based in New Jersey, in 1998, which led to the formation of Virtua.

2. Before the merger created Virtua, Mr. Miller served in a number of leadership positions within the West Jersey Health System, beginning as vice president of finance and ending as president and CEO.

3. During his tenure at Virtua, Mr. Miller oversaw several projects, including the transition of a Camden, N.J.-based inpatient facility into an outpatient center.

4. He is a fellow of the American College of Healthcare Executives and has served on the American Hospital Association’s Governing Council of Healthcare Executives

5. Virtua has started searching for Mr. Miller’s successor.
