Richmond, Va.-based VCU Health has extended the contract of CEO Marlon Levy, MD, to June 2030.
The Virginia Commonwealth University Health System Authority Board of Directors and VCU Board of Visitors approved the four-year extension in June, according to a July 13 health system news release.
Dr. Levy has served as CEO since 2022, when he stepped into the role on an interim basis; he was named permanent CEO in 2024. Under his leadership, VCU Health has expanded access to care across Virginia and achieved its highest patient safety ratings to date in 2026, the release said. He has led the system through achievements such as the completion of a $28 million neonatal intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital of Richmond at VCU, which opened in January.
“Dr. Levy leads with the heart of a physician and the steadiness of an experienced executive,” Diana Cantor, chair of the board of directors, said in the release. “Under his leadership, VCU Health has strengthened its financial position, expanded access to care and built important momentum across our clinical, academic and research missions.”
VCU Health’s board also elected Ms. Cantor as its chair, effective July 13 — the first elected chair in the authority’s history — with a term running through June 2028. Fotini “Fay” Manolios was elected vice chair, Joel Nied secretary and Randolph Reynolds Jr. treasurer.
Hem Bhardwaj, MD, was elected chair of the Quality, Safety, and Service Committee, and Mark Oley, PharmD, was elected chair of the Audit and Compliance Committee.
