Charles Worthington, chief technology and AI officer of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, plans to leave the agency.
“I came to government to close the gap between what the best companies in the world were doing with technology and the way our government delivers services,” Mr. Worthington wrote in a March 12 LinkedIn post. “I’m proud to say our team made a dent.”
He pointed to the launching of the VA mobile app, with 4 million downloads and a 4.8-star App Store rating, and expanding generative AI access to all VA employees, with more than 120,000 staffers reporting savings of two to three hours a week.
George Waddington will serve as acting chief technology officer, while Kimberly McManus, PhD, will step in as acting chief AI officer, a VA spokesperson told Becker’s.
