Vanderbilt taps CFO for new division

James Newman, associate vice president for finance at Nashville, Tenn,-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center, has been appointed vice president and divisional CFO for the system’s clinical support services division, effective Jan. 1.

In his new role, Mr. Newman will report to Vanderbilt CFO and Treasurer Cecelia Moore and provide financial oversight for the new division, which will be led by Chad Fitzgerald as of Jan. 1. Mr. Fitzgerald succeeds Jim Hayman, the division’s founding leader, who is retiring from VUMC on Dec. 31. Mr. Newman will also continue to lead revenue accounting and budgeting for the health system.

He joined VUMC in 2011 as director of finance, hospitals and institutes, where he oversaw a team of financial officers at three hospitals and ambulatory clinics. In 2021 he was promoted to associate vice president for finance, a role in which he oversees revenue recognition and reporting for the VUMC clinical enterprise.

Before joining VUMC, Mr. Newman was a divisional CFO with Chesterfield, Mo.-based Mercy Health System and a senior manager in KPMG’s healthcare practice.
