Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt Health has named Carmen Solorzano, MD, interim chair of the section of surgical sciences and David Penson, MD, interim system surgeon-in-chief.
Both leaders will step into their respective roles Oct. 16, according to an Aug. 4 news release from the health system.
Dr. Solorzano joined Vanderbilt Health in 2010 and has since served as director of the Endocrine Surgery Center, chief of the division of general surgery at the Nashville VA Medical Center, chief of the division of surgical oncology and endocrine surgery, and deputy vice chair and chair of the department of surgery.
Dr. Penson joined Vanderbilt Health in 2009 and has served as chair of the department of urology, director of the Vanderbilt Center for Surgical Quality and Outcomes Research, and the Paul V. Hamilton MD and Virginia E. Howd Professor of Urologic Oncology.
Seth Karp, MD, Vanderbilt Health’s current system surgeon-in-chief and chair of the section of surgical sciences, will step down on Oct. 15 to join Boston-based Dana-Farber Cancer Institute as surgeon-in-chief and chair of the Roberta and Stephen R. Weiner Department of Surgery at Boston-based Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center.
