Valeant names interim CEO: 5 things to know

Valeant Pharmaceuticals International, a publicly-traded, multinational specialty drug company based in Laval, Quebec, has appointed Howard Schiller interim CEO, effective immediately.

Here are five things to know about Mr. Schiller.

1. He currently is a member of Valeant’s board of directors.

2. Previously, he was Valeant’s CFO from December 2011 through June 2015.

3. Prior to Valeant, Mr. Schiller worked for Goldman Sachs, a global investment banking firm.

4. Ms. Schiller’s appointment comes as former CEO J. Michael Pearson remains in the hospital on medical leave after being diagnosed with severe pneumonia. The timing of Mr. Pearson’s expected return is uncertain, Valeant said.

5. In addition to Mr. Schiller’s appointment, Valeant has also appointed Robert Ingram, lead independent director, as interim board chairman.
