UVM Medical Center president to retire: 6 notes

Eileen Whalen, RN, president of University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington, Vt., is retiring in June.

Six notes:

1. Ms. Whalen has worked at UVM Medical Center for four years.

2. During her tenure as president, the hospital built a new mother-baby unit and established emergency medicine residency and acute care surgery programs.

3. She also spearheaded the implementation of a regional critical care transport system.

4. Ms. Whalen has 35 years of healthcare experience.

5. Stephen Leffler, MD, chief population health and quality officer of the University of Vermont Health Network, will take on the role of interim president.

6. Dr. Leffler is also an emergency medicine physician, who still provides care at UVM Medical Center’s emergency department.
