University of Rochester Medical Center names CEO

David Linehan, MD, was named CEO of the University of Rochester (N.Y.) Medical Center, dean of the School of Medicine and Dentistry, and senior vice president for health sciences, effective Feb. 1.

Dr. Linehan, a surgical oncologist, joined the University of Rochester nearly a decade ago as chair of the surgery department at URMC, according to a Dec. 19 news release. He is associate director for clinical research at the university's Wilmot Cancer Institute and the Seymour I. Schwartz Professor in Surgery. He will retain his faculty position when he succeeds Mark Taubman, MD, in his new role.

Before joining the University of Rochester, Dr. Linehan was the Neidorff Family and Robert C. Packman Professor of Surgery at St. Louis-based Washington University School of Medicine and served as chief of hepatobiliary-pancreatic and gastrointestinal surgery.

URMC encompasses UR Medicine, the School of Medicine and Dentistry, the School of Nursing, and the Eastman Institute for Oral Health.
