Philadelphia-based University of Pennsylvania Health System has promoted Julia Puchtler to executive vice president, expanding on the CFO role she has held since July 2024.
In her new role, she will continue overseeing the health system’s revenue cycle, corporate finance, financial operations and budgeting, billing compliance, and supply chain and procurement functions, while taking on a broader role shaping Penn Medicine’s long-term strategy and enterprise priorities, according to a Sept. 10 news release.
“Julia has been an exceptional leader and trusted advisor during a period of extraordinary change and complexity across healthcare,” CEO Kevin Mahoney said in the release. “Her strategic vision, sound judgment, and deep commitment to our mission have strengthened Penn Medicine’s position and helped ensure that we can continue investing in our people and the patient care, research, and education that define our organization.”
Ms. Puchtler joined Penn Medicine in 2015 as vice president for financial operations and budgeting and became CFO of the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania in 2019.
“I look forward to continuing our work to steward our resources responsibly, navigate the challenges ahead, and create the financial foundation that allows our teams to advance care, discovery, and education,” Ms. Puchtler said in the release.
Penn Medicine’s most recent fiscal year ended June 30. The system reported operating income of $336.9 million (2.5% operating margin) in fiscal 2026, up from $246.7 million (2.1% margin) in fiscal 2025.
