University of Michigan School of Medicine appoints health equity and inclusion officer

The University of Michigan Medical School in Ann Arbor has named David J. Brown, MD, the associate vice president and associate dean for health equity and inclusion.

Dr. Brown is an associate professor of pediatric otolaryngology in the U-M Medical School and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, which is also located in Ann Arbor, Mich., as well as a diversity advocate. Prior to this appointment, Dr. Brown served as the interim associate vice president and interim associate dean for health equity and inclusion since January 2015.

"David Brown has immersed himself in our efforts to improve diversity, equity and inclusion at the University of Michigan Health System and has proven to be a collaborative leader," said T. Anthony Denton, senior vice president and COO for the U-M hospitals and health centers and the U-M Medical Group. "We are thrilled that David will continue to move our health system forward on these important efforts, partnering with other leaders to  create a culture that aims to eliminate healthcare disparities."
